About Me

My photo
All my work in the past prepared me for the "toughest job I'll ever love"- Mommy! So what do I do? I drown in laundry Marvel at how dishes & clutter can multiply- socks subtract. Repetitive tasks? Sweep several times a day. Find I'm folding laundry cleaning up the same books and toys so often&in the same place in some weird kind of deja vu. &in between I teachinspirelistenplay w/my little one. Thus the name of my blog-Math for Mommies: Add the number of times your child has lost his shoes made a mess brought home a stray bug as a pet surprised you delighted you while making you tear your hair out too! & of course subtract the # of good nights sleep you'll lose the er date nights you will no longer get &multiply by the things you'll forget & though it makes no sense: you've got mommy math. Really I'm not so great at things like math & the like yet I attract those who are-friends and exes - math/physics/computer geeks. Opposites attract&all that! What I really want is someone good w/words n all that- Artists, musicians&free thinkers-pls apply

Good luck!

Win a Step 2 Grand Lifestyle Kitchen! Review and Giveaway @ Two of a Kind, Working on a Full House

How would you like to win a toy that will be welcomed by both you and your kids?  You will appreciate how sturdy and well made it is - and the relative ease of putting it together.  Both you and your kids will enjoy the hours of play they get out of it!

Its colors are gender neutral so if your son is a budding chef - like mine - he'll love this!  Not only is it easy to put together, but comes with all the bells and whistles as well, including microwave and phone which make neat noises  and lots of accessories!

So if you're looking for a great Christmas gift that won't be discarded a few days after opening - I recommend this!  A great toy that encourages kids to play together (heck you might even want to join in the fun!) as well exercising as their imaginations.  Two kids can play inside this kitchen and even more participate outside  - with a great counters  for serving food.  What great pretend games are born of these kitchens!

Check it out here: http://www.step2.com/product.cfm?product_id=1218

Win free childcare for a year!

We all want to do what's best for our family. Sometimes we need to work to provide the most for our kids.  If you're like me though - you can't afford to work (besides that its something my husband vetoes)  The rising costs of childcare and on top of that taxes, clothes for work, transportation and more can either exheed your paycheck or leave you working for a pittance after all is said and done -everything paid for.    Yet I really want to contribute more - pay down some bills and school loans and give my little snoogs the social opportuniies and structured learning that a daycare/preschool can better provide.

I do have a choice here, I can go with a very cheap, bare bones operation but stories of kidnappings and all kinds of abuse abound - and Albuquerque is full of sexual offenders - you can find out if your neighborhood in your state is here: http://www.familywatchdog.us/ you can also just look up criminals on other sites.  There also seem to be alot of kidnapping stories for NM as well. And that's just the ones caught.  Then there's the long process of finding someone with experience.

Are you in the same boat - would you want to find a site that offers background checks, references, picture profiles and more all on one site?  What if that same site were hosting a giveaway for one full year of childcare for a year  woundn't you want to find out more about it?  Well there is such a site and I highly recommend it - just go to care.com to find out more. Again they're giving away $12,445--the cost of a year of child care for the average American family.  But hurry! There's only a few days left!

All parents have to do to win the $12,445 prize is to visit Care.com before Oct. 9th and sign up for a free Basic Membership or subscribe for a full Premium Membership. Or if they're already a Care.com member, they can register through their homepage.

Win a Kid's Creations Swing Set

Spring is here! I'm very excited because spring is the time of new beginnings. And @ two, my little one is reveling in one of his first springs. His excitement over trees flowering and all the "buggies" - ants, butterflies etc - and the opportunity to be out all day - or as long as I can stay away from being inside studying or cleaning is very exciting for him. And this excitement is contagious, its like, I too, as the saying goes, have been given new eyes seeing everything fresh and with wonder.

We currently live in NM and it is fairly new to all of us and I can't wait to take him to the zoo, hiking, to ice caves and pueblos. And right now we walk a few miles to the nearest park.

It can be hard though on a daily base you know those days - just about every one! - that your kids beg you to take them to the park and you're too busy or too tired - or maybe you don't have one close by? Going on their own in this day and age, in most places, isn't always an option.

Or maybe you have a playset, but they've outgrown it, or its rusting and dangerous? Wouldn't you love a product warrantied to be free from deterioration impairing the product - for as long as you own it?

How would you like the chance to win a Kid's Creations Quality Redwood Swing Set? Their giving away their most popular set - the Three Ring Ring Adventure and you don't even have to worry about shipping and handling! Check out this and other sets at their website here: http://www.kidscreations.com Sponsoring the contest is, http://www.dad-blogs.com/the-blogs/community-news/372.html

My family would love to win this set as I'm a non-driver, I think its Dyspraxia that keeps me from it and sometimes as a new, older mom, walking a few miles to the park isn't in the cards. My husband works swing on base, and is an avid player of World of Warcraft, so getting out during the day is difficult for him. We also have the option of sharing with all the cousins - eight so far!

Another reason we'd like to win a Kid's Creation Swing Set specifically is because the founders of this company stand by its quality and in fact, feel its twice the quality of average sets - at half the price. This is important as a quality product, besides being fun and looking great is going to be durable and stand up to years of play. One added bonus - this Swing Set is easy to put together! The holes are pre-drilled! Just bolt the pieces together! Time is important and an extra twenty hours or so could be better spent getting things done and putting in time with our family.

For those who choose to buy a set, how important and better spent is that $700 or so you save buying this set rather then another that gives you a headache and takes away so much precious time from your day? And you can rest assured that this will be worth it from the thicker screws, bolts to the larger lumber, chains and decks - everything is bigger - to hold up under the toughest customers out there - kids! Its commercial grade - even better for years of play. Its so durable and so much larger in every aspect that even mom and dad can play on this one. And you know I would!

With all that Kid's Creation's has to offer, why would our family want something of less superior quality? Something more difficult to put together? Something that won't stand up to the next 12+ years of play? I would love to win this for my little one to play on, to save me precious study/house work time I lose walking to the park (I do my cardio with comcast programs and running after my toddler), and to save my husband frustration putting together another less superior product. This is something, even though my husband is a military contractor, we can't afford on our right now. I'm a SAHM who appreciates the sweetness and importance of staying home (and its actually more expensive to go to work right now) but it means we have to be frugal as far as huge purchase items like this for the next few years.

So please, count me in - because this family would love to win!

Thanks, dad blogger for hosting this contest and give us all the opportunity, not only to win, but to dream of winning such a great Swing Set. A prize that will give kids excercise, problem solving, pretend play - and just plain fun! And give parents less headaches!

Math for mommies

I was entering a giveaway for what sounds like a great work at home resource book. The question entrants must answer is what kind of work do you do?

What? Now or in the past? I've suffered through the monotony of data entry work and reception duties - but for me it was more like reveled. As much as I love trying new things, like dropping everything and moving cross country with one suitcase of clothes, the other of my writings with little else save a plane ticket and job offer for care taking...for houses and people, I actually enjoy some repetitive tasks.

I've also worked for different kinds of weight loss centers - I really enjoy partnering with others to guide them towards their goals. I worked both as consultant/counselor/priestly confessor where I encouraged, inspired and listened and Program Director - introducing clients to the program, sales to some. And let's not forget my stint on a hot springs resort (clothing optional in the hot springs - I shock myself just thinking about it) where I both answered phones and scrubbed toilets.

And more recently, I learned the body from he cellular level up for Massage Therapy, completing everything just in time for booking passage for my little Indigo and providing comfy transport for him for nine months before delivering him to the world. At 36. I finished school just in time as my mind turned to mush during my pregnancy and is only very slowly getting back to normal and its two years later. Like my likely atrophied muscles, my brain is gathering dust and stiffening up, and needs a good housecleaning and regular opportunities to tone and flex its muscles.

All of the "careers" I've had help prepare me for the "toughest job I'll ever love". Motherhood. I never thought it would happen that I'd want it, could give lists of reasons why it would never happen. Not to me. Yet there I was, first time out trying, I caught, goal, touchdown, but no rabbit died as test methods have improved. I think. I hope.

So what do I do? I drown in laundry, I marvel at how dishes and clutter can multiply while socks subtract. Repetitive tasks? I sweep several times a day. Clean up the same books and toys just as many times or more and find my self folding laundry in the same places in some weird kind of deja vu. And in between I encourage, inspire, listen and play with my little one.

I love my little snoogs yet yearn for the day I get a break, go back to work, take a breath on my own, pee on my own, scratch my nose on my own. And then I immediately feel guilty for these thoughts! My husband works swing and is addicted to World of Warcraft, not much of an interactor and really doesn't understand kids. Expecting him to be perfectly behaved without baby proofing anything so that when he's not, when he touches his game players (to get attention - he looks right at his dad and when his dad ignores him he chatters or makes noise) so that most of his dad's time with him is spent saying and yelling the word, no. So I mostly stay with him 24/7 except when I need a shower or if Daniel is home and RK engrossed in Sponge Bob or a game, I will nurse a migraine in the dark.

How do I justify going back to work? I need to pay for both study materials and my exam yet most of my check will be spent on childcare, transportation and taxes. And eventually be independent enough to manage my own household's money...be free to make decisions for myself and my child. So I wait. Biding my time. Trying to be the best mommy I can. Entering sweepstakes and winning lots...hoping to win enough to balance my child and nurture my need for a career and independence.
